Monsley stops before climbing into the cockpit and looks at Lana by the porthole.

Lana’s hysterical cries tell Monsley the boy’s name, and she thinks he is like a wild animal.

Monsley calls Conan a stubborn brat and wonders what he was dancing on the wing for.

She thinks that everyone seems to want Lana, even the half-naked boy, and wonders how he fell for her so quickly.

Monsley recalls that Lana went overboard from The Barracuda, spent time in the water and somehow survived to reach the island.

She wonders why the old man and the boy hid Lana and protected her instead of giving her to the crew.

Monsley decides she will stay young, succeed, and believes her boss and the High Council will sort the mess out.

Before climbing to the cockpit, Monsley stopped and looked at Lana. The girl sat quietly by the porthole. She now wore electromagnetic handcuffs because she would not calm down after the boy dropped from the wing into the sea. Lana's hysterical cries—"Conan! Conan! Please return! Save him!"—had told Monsley the boy’s name. Monsley thought he was like a wild animal.

"What a stubborn brat!" she thought, "Dancing on the wing under bullets against the wind like that. What wild determination. And what on earth for?"

Many questions filled her mind.

"This little girl seemed to be wanted by all and everyone, including this half-naked animal", muttered Monsley under her breath. "How could he have possibly fallen for her in such little time?"

"By all accounts, Lana had gone overboard of The Barracuda the day before yesterday. She spent some time in water to be sure—a feat of sorts, no doubt. How could she have made it at all?! You do what you gotta do to survive, they say. Then, she got to that God-forgotten island and the old man with the boy took care of her. But why hide her? Why not give her away and earn something for it? Why were they so distrustful to her and her crew? Why were they so protective of the girl that they had seen for the first time and known for hours? We didn't do them any harm, did we? With that darn rocket launcher the old man—the Father Time as she called such old people—must have kicked the bucket after such a blast!"

Monsley told herself she was young and would stay young. She planned to succeed, clean up the mess, and change the world. She believed that her boss and the old wise men from Indusria’s High Council would sort the mess out in the end.
